Theft Reward Program
The Nebraska Cattlemen has renewed its Theft Reward program and offers up to a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person(s) stealing cattle from a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen.

Deshler, Nebraska Man Sentenced in Cattle Case
Alliance, NE — On March 27, 2009, Dawson County District Judge James E. Doyle sentenced
Timothy S. Loontjer to be imprisoned in the Nebraska Department of Corrections for a period of a
minimum of twelve months to a maximum of thirty-six months. The sentence is to run concurrently
with a previous sentence from Gage County, Nebraska.
This stems from an earlier guilty plea by Loontjer to amended charges of Attempted Theft by
Deception, a Class IV Felony.
Court records indicate that Timothy Loontjer purchased cattle at the Lexington Livestock Market,
Lexington, NE on December 20, 2007, issuing a check in the amount of $12,403.29 on a closed
account. The following day, December 21, 2007, he sold the same cattle at the auction market in
Sutton, NE.
This case was investigated by the State of Nebraska Brand Committee.
February 2, 2009 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Two Valley County Men Bound Over
Alliance, NE — On February 2, 2009 in Valley County Court, Ord, NE, Bryon and Kevin Nevrivy
were bound over to district court by Judge Alan Brobeck on felony theft charges of violation of
Nebraska Statute 28-514. Court records indicate that these charges stem from an incident in which
three head of bred Heredford heifers owned by Don Psota strayed onto the Joe Nevrivy farm near
Ord, NE sometime during the year of 2000. Allegedly, Kevin and Bryon were involved in the
farming operation with their father, Joe until January of 2008. Both individuals indicated to officers
that they had knowledge of the estrays being on the property since the spring of 2000 and that they
were branded with someone else’s brand. Upon receiving a complaint from the victim on
10/27/2008 a Nebraska Brand Committee Criminal Investigator and the Valley County Sheriff’s
office contacted the subjects and recovered 3 cow/calf pairs, as well as one yearling heifer allegedly
owned by Don Psota. The estimated value of the livestock involved was just under $4,000.00.
Livestock Brand Inspector & Animal Safety/Handling Certification - The Nebraska Brand Committee is offering a brand inspector and animal safety and handling certification at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Curtis, Nebraska.
This program will include two days of classroom and field training at the college, followed by 20 hours of ride along time with a livestock brand inspector to be scheduled as conveniently as possible with the participant involved.
The curriculum may include the history of brand inspection, a review of the Livestock Brand Act, the National Animal Identification System, the Nebraska beef check-off program, demonstrations on roping, working, handling and the physical ownership brand inspection of cattle by representatives of the Nebraska Brand Committee and the Nebraska Beef Council. Principles of low stress cattle handling and safety, handling demonstrations and the Nebraska Beef Quality Assurance program presented by Jo Bek and the College of Technical Agriculture.
This certification program is open to the general public, as well as anyone who may be enrolled at the college. Successful completion of this program will be worth one credit hour through the College for those who are interested.
